Philip Hammond is the MP for Runnymede and Weybridge and the current Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. He has been an MP since 1997 and the Foreign Secretary since 2014.

Early Life Edit

Hammond was born on December 4 1955 in Essex to a civil engineer. He attended Shenfield School and later went on to study politics, philosophy and economics at University College, Oxford.

Political Career Edit

Philip became an MP in 1997 and has remained an MP ever since.

Shadow Roles Edit

He held a number of Shadow roles, such as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

Government Roles Edit

When Tories came to power, he was appointed the Secretary of State for Transport (2010 - 2011). After that he became Secretary of State for Defence (2011 - 2014) and in 2014 he was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, which he was re-appointed as in 2015.

After Prime Minister David Cameron resigned, the new Conservative Party Leader, Theresa May appointed Hammond as Chancellor of the Exchequer. However, during the 2017 election, some ministers suggested Amber Rudd would replace him in this position. He dismissed this. [1]
